Construction of new office and laboratory building within the STADA Pharmacy complex in Bad Vilbel in Germany, caused a need for designing open spaces around the building.
In this Projectthe functional architecture of industrial building and aesthetic requests has met.
Vehicular access to the building is designed as winding line of green mass – trees, hedges,grass and perennials. According to set requirements, parking lot is also designed in this part.
Area around the building is surrounded by the path which enables employees a short walk and rest in the few elliptical patios. Generally, ellipse dominates in whole Project as a shape which associates on tablet – association on activity of the Company. These small resting places are imagined as a private places surrounded by the hedge that frames nice chosen perennial species for shadow and half-shadow.
The entrance to the building is designed as cascade of green mass of boxwood and in-between is the ramp for disabled people. Two stair arms merge into platform and with one more stair arm is entering the building. There is a modern glass fence with steel handrail.
Across the entrance is elliptical patio borded by sustaining wall used for benches. According to set request of investor, bicycle park place is also designed in this part.
Project also included designing open space in front of existing canteen designed as two sitting patios set on waterpermeable fine gravel base. Ellipses with benches are surrounded by the rhododendrons and existing evergreen trees complemented with umbrella shaped Amelanchier lamarckii trees. This species is main accent along the walking path behind the building.
Generally, according to project tasks, 50% of trees and shrubs are domestic species chosen from given list and planting normis 1 shrub/m² and 1 tree/5m² . The most striking tree species in the Project are Betula utilis var.jacquemontii and umbrella form of Amelanchier lamarckii. Architectural formed Taxus cuspidata and Buxus sempervirens 'Blauer Heinz' give a green base to whole area and Rhododendron 'Madame Masson' and different perennials make it interesting.
Considering modern architecture of the building, landscape design is harmonized and additionally refines simplicity of it.
Simple form, permanent materials and green mass give whole complex necessary peace and free space for the rest.
